Department of History

History, more than a discipline, is a human necessity. Our work is associated with the very existence of humanity, hence its inevitable relevance. In this program, we provide theoretical and technical approaches to problematize the past and professionalize its study through a dialogue with the present. Since 1957, we have worked on training historians, while also proposing renewed intellectual concerns through three lines of research (Theory of History and Historiography, History of the Present Time, and Global History), editorial projects, outreach programs, and an active academic body, mostly within the Conacyt National System of Researchers.

BASIC

Groups conceptual frameworks, fundamental disciplinary and methodological notions, as well as university induction activities.
MINOR

Free-choice subjects that complement professional training, according to different disciplinary and/or professional fields. May include organized sets of 3 subjects from any department if you wish to obtain the Complementary Studies Diploma.
MAJOR

Promotes the application of knowledge in a specific professional field and trains students for responsible performance.

ASE

Curricular spaces that promote interdisciplinarity and whose intention is for students to evaluate, integrate and apply the acquisition of generic and professional competencies.
AFAS

Curricular space that aims to strengthen social commitment and responsibility through direct contact with the country's reality and professional attention to vulnerable groups and/or communities in need.
ARU

Contributes to the comprehensive training of students considering their autonomy and commitment, enabling them to propose conscious, responsible and critical actions in the face of the challenges of their social and environmental context.

We have our own historical archive in the Francisco Xavier Clavigero Library, with documentation from the 14th to the 21st century, and professional academics in the management and interpretation of preserved materials.

We learn to select, analyze and interpret different types of historical sources for research work, conservation, management, teaching or dissemination: photographs, press, correspondence, audio, testimonies, judicial files, parish archive, among many others.

We create new problem-based elective subjects set, promoting reflection, legal mechanisms and actions of specific problems solution from interdisciplinary approach. You will be able to analyze specific problems articulating knowledge from different law branches, as well as from other disciplines, chosen by yourself.

We are backed by a solid trajectory of more than 65 years. We are committed to high-quality, ethical, and responsible training with its environment, with the social functions of history and the dialogue with the present and its realities. We have our own historical archive, attached to the Francisco Xavier Clavigero Library, where our students practice and learn with primary sources and research techniques. We have agreements with 200 national and international universities. We offer a flexible program that allows students to channel their own intellectual interests in ten free-choice subjects, both in History and in other disciplines. We provide professionalizing subjects, thinking about the labor field, which are complemented by 108 hours of professional practices and 480 hours of social service, where students test their graduate profile.

Faced with the global challenges facing the historical discipline, we are committed to permanent thematic and methodological updating; contact with academic institutions and researchers abroad; more flexible and interdisciplinary curricular structures, and Digital History as a new field of study and graduate profile. Furthermore, we have three lines of research in Global History, History of the Present Time, and Theory of History and Historiography.

We do professional internships with libraries, archives, research centers, museums, public and private organizations, and media outlets in Mexico and abroad. In recent years, our students have conducted exchanges with universities in the United States, the Netherlands, Spain, and Israel. We are in contact with alumni and form support networks.
